A Kitchen’s CO₂ Emission

65kg

Is that a lot or a little?

Our average greenhouse gas emission per kitchen stands at 65kg of CO₂. This figure pales in comparison to 7300kg of CO₂ emissions attributed to the average South African in 2020, according to the latest data.

Energy Breakdown

In the area of technology, the carbon footprint is a key metric when it comes to sustainability: our goal is to gradually reduce this – to the point where we emit zero greenhouse gases in the near future.

Once this target has been reached, Inside Living will be able to call itself climate-neutral. The road to climate neutrality comprises many steps, big and small, that all add up.

Kitchen Lifecycle

modern kitchen design sustainability material wood
  • In cascade use, wood is utilised in many forms, protecting forests and the climate. Chipboard is an intelligent material that makes a considerable contribution to resource conservation. Wood is an enormously valuable and versatile resource, important for sustainability as a means of storing CO2. To maximize this benefit, wood should be used as long as possible, through cascade use.

kitchen waste recycling sustainability
  • The surface quality has to be perfect as this is where the décor, the face of the panel, is applied. However, you’ll find almost exclusively waste wood in the centre of the panel. This means that no trees have to be felled for this part of the kitchen. The use of waste wood conserves resources and protects the environment without compromising on product quality.

  • Our suppliers use low percentages(red) of virgin timber into their boards. They also use these waste materials for energy required in making the boards.

kitchen design packaging factory
  • Our manufacturer prioritizes sustainable packaging. We minimize packaging whenever possible, and when packaging is necessary, we use fully biodegradable or up to 98% recyclable materials, ensuring a closed-loop resource cycle.

  • We consolodate our orders for import. Fewer shipping trips translate to lower fuel consumption, leading to a decrease in emissions and cost savings for our customers.

tree seedling sustainability
  • PEFC certification guarantees that the wood used to manufacture our kitchen furniture originates from sustainably managed forests. This is how we ensure that every tree felled for our kitchens is replaced by planting a new tree. Without the trees there will be no kitchens.
